[Resolved] eXo Social a good foundation for a 1m+ Members Social Network?
Posted:Mon,Jul 19,2010, 05:55 PM

Hi List,

do you think the eXo platform would be a good start for developing a large public social network with massive usage (like millions of user profiles, hundreds of millions of friendships and billions of messages and page impressions)? Could the user base be sharded across several DB or KVS clusters? Are any nosql solutions supported within the core platform?

Or is eXo exclusively focused enterprisey applications, where you rather need functionality and performance isn't that critical?

Best regards,

Jens

Although, we would love to see such a large network being built with eXo Social, our initial target is more tens of thousands, rather than millions. Because, yes, we focus on enterprise environment primarily.

We intend to make some measurements and scalability testing in the coming months. We'll share result when available.

About persistence, exo Social uses eXo JCR as the persistence engine. Note that eXo JCR uses a relational database for storage by default, but is possible to write your own storage engine based on a nosql engine.
